Do you hear this worry expressed by your doctor, family members or friends? It’s a misconception. The opposite is really what happens. When the colon is thoroughly cleansed, it functions more normally on it’s own. I’ve worked with thousands of people who have spent a year or two or more benefiting from the assistance of regular colonics who find improved natural function in their digestive tracts.
With adequate PREP (in terms of cleansing foods and supplements), coupled with hefty doses of patience and self-empathy, colon cleansing actually allows the body to work more efficiently.
Yes, the colon does have a dependency. It depends on a regular diet of wholesome foods, exercise, and deep cleansing in order to function optimally.
Health coach, Matt Monarch likes to share his enthusiasm for good food and good poops.
There are many people who still think that ingesting clay in any form sounds foreign or unusual. “Eat dirt? You’ve got to be kidding me.”
But, truth be told, indigenous peoples throughout the world, since prehistoric times, have eaten clay. For millenniums, up until today, the practice remains prevalent. Clay, dried and re-hydrated, is used for medicinal, as well as nutritive purposes in regions such as India, Africa, South America, Australia, Canada and Haiti, just to name a few.
Calcium bentonite clay is actually volcanic ash that is as old as the hills. I mean, literally, OLD! This clay has been stored in Mother Nature’s womb for millions of years. Mined from deep under the earth’s crust, where no surface contaminants pollute the purity of this powerful, magnetic detoxifier, “living clay” is available to us for use in the 21st century. This fact does not cease to amaze me!
Raymond Dextreit, a French naturopath and forerunner in herbal healing states, “Clay is effective through a dynamic presence far more significant than a mere consideration of the substances it contains. It is a catalyst rather than an agent in itself. This is possible because clay is alive – ‘living earth’. We cannot always penetrate Nature’s secrets, we must merely acknowledge and use them.”
Certain clays, particularly the Montmorillonite variety in the Smectite family, have a balancing effect on the human body when taken orally. Calcium bentonite is the rarest form of clay in the Smectite family, and even though sodium bentonite and calcium bentonite are cousins from the same family genus, they are very different in efficacy. Throughout the history of clay mines there have only been a few in the world which contained a pure vein of calcium bentonite.
There are an increasing number of modern, health-conscious folks who are looking to nature for curative substances that address many of the ills we are challenged by. Numerous clients at Oasis Colonics highly value drinking their few ounce ration of “clay water” each and every day, in order to draw toxins out through the layers of the bowel wall in preparation for their colonic “rinse.” It is a phenomenon that the healing properties of calcium bentonite clay go to where needed in the body. The high absorption and adsorption properties of clay make it a most effective and gentle detoxifier in our increasingly toxic environment.
If you’re looking for the best clay for detox and internal cleansing purposes, calcium bentonite should be your first choice.
“Living Clay” calcium bentonite is sourced from a rare mine in Death Valley, California. Purchase through the Oasis Colonics online store, or pick some up at the Portland colonic studio to save shipping costs.
Mixing instructions for various uses:
For internal use: Shake 1 part clay powder to 8 parts water. To keep a convenient quantity on hand for daily drinking, mix 1/2 cup clay in a jar with 4 cups (1 quart) water.
For topical use: Stir 1 part clay powder to 3 parts water. Let stand until smooth.
For baths: Blend 1 to 2 cups of clay powder with water, and add to a shallow bath to soak entire body.
Matt Monarch, one of my favorite and endearingly enthusiastic health proponents, offers us Part III of his “Detoxing Into the Spiritual” series, with more inspiration about the kinds of “spiritual” experiences we can look forward to when our bodies are detoxed through clean whole foods, coupled with clearing out intestinal waste by colonic irrigation.
Many people find, as I did and still do, that when you eat clean foods, and cleanse the colon for years, physical food cravings diminish or disappear altogether. No more fighting the “sugar demons” and “bread gremlins.” Freedom from appetite slavery is worth the effort and investment.
“Health is a side benefit for a spiritual lifestyle.” ~Matt Monarch
Some poignant quotes from Matt’s recent video:
Without the colonics it is very, very, very difficult to bring the spiritual vibration higher, [i.e.] by diet alone.
Without colonics you can’t go as far [into the detox process].
When you do colonics more than just your feces comes out. You get invisible gases, acids, and things like this…when you do colonics you eliminate this invisible waste which is gas…it’s a pressure that’s pushing against your cells.
One of my favorite inspirational health heroes, Matt Monarch, talks again here in Part 2, about the value of whole foods, detox and spiritual growth.

These ten impediments commonly prevent us from thoroughly enjoying life’s simple pleasures:
Internal poisons can cause wrinkles, blemishes, psoriasis, eczema and liver spots.
Impacted waste disturbs mental function and hastens dementia.
A toxic colon can cause acidosis, bloating and yeast infections.
Decreased bowel activity can cause foul breath and bad teeth.
An unhealthy colon can be related to arthritis and joint pain.
A congested lower bowel can cause back pain, migraines, irritable bowel syndrome, colitis and diverticulitis.
An inactive colon can cause weight gain and slow weight loss.
Toxins, such as phenol, ammonia, indol, scatole, cresol, cadaverin, botulin, butyric acid, neurin, sepsin, and other highly active poisons, found in a low functioning colon, can increase cancer risk by at least 75%.
Waste in the colon putrefies, creates gas, and slows elimination.
A toxic bowel can weaken and cause stress to the heart.
